Renovation Project

Exterior photo of Bryson House

The last renovation of the Bryson House dates from the 1980’s.  Since then, as for all wood buildings, the house has been subject to much inclement weather, resulting in a gradual loss of lustre.  In addition, freezing and thawing of the ground has weakened the foundation of the outbuildings.

The roof and the verandah have been replaced in 2016 - 2017.

The Bryson House Association works to raise the necessary funds for further renovations.  This will include replacement of the windows of the widow’s walk; exterior painting; restoration of the third floor; and stabilizing and restoring the outbuildings.   All this work is estimated to cost several hundred thousand dollars.  The Ministry of Culture, of Communication and Women’s Affairs is going to be the principal partner in this project.  However, the Association has to raise at least 10% of the total cost.

To meet this goal, the Association proposes various activities such as the museum and the tea room as well as fund raisers.  We welcome also, donations which are invested in total in the improvement of the house, both interior and exterior.

If you wish to make a donation, address your remittance, by cheque to the “George Bryson Cultural House.”  Your name will be added to the list of generous donors.  We sincerely thank you for your assistance in preserving our heritage.
